A View Over Prague

I’m standing at my window in Prague, looking over the rooftops. I’m not sure what the time is. Surely it must be tomorrow. A flight from Australia always takes forever. Add in a few connections (since a direct flight from Sydney to Prague doesn’t exist) and it takes forever and a day.

Leaning against the window-sill I know Prague is worth it. I look over gorgeous grey slate tiles and Baroque statues, gold gilding and stucco design covering the walls, and ornate swirls embracing the windows.

A tram rattles past. Below me, the city is slowly waking up. The sky is filled with clouds, hinting of a last fall of snow which never comes. Everyone is dressed in winter layers but, despite the cold, spring is nearby; driving in from the airport, the roundabouts were filled with hundreds of tulips.

But I turn back to the impossibly ornate buildings opposite me. Soldiers in trim coats and tall hats stare out from an alcove, while cherubs play with one another around a window ledge. Flowing drapery does nothing to cover buxom women, and copper domes tarnished with age are adorned with gold gilt.

All this in just a few buildings - a strong coffee, and I’ll head out to discover the rest of the old town.

Perhaps instead you’d like to buy me a coffee? (Or a pony?)
